Last year, Pantone selected the color Greenery to help us all reenergize after a very difficult year. Now that we have recovered from 2016 and are once again standing on our feet, Pantone has selected Ultra Violet 18-3838 as 2018’s color of the year. They chose this purple shade to inspire an era of increased creativity and exploration to help us move on from the past.
“Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.”
The Advantages of Purple
Purple has historically been symbolic of power. It has both of the advantages of its parent colors, red and blue. Ultra Violet is a strong shade that exudes a sense of collected confidence. Its bold punch comes from the red within, while it draws its cool collectedness from its blue tones. The combination makes the blue-based shade truly regal. An additional bonus: it is the color of my alma mater, the University of Washington!
So if you are in need of an authoritative color to foster your creativity in the year to come, Ultra Violet is the shade for you.
