The past couple of months were quite a challenge for a lot of people. Many lost their jobs and had to struggle with making ends meet. Others had to learn how to work from home and deal with the stress associated with it. But, the one challenge that we all had to tackle is spending more time at home than ever before.
With this in mind, we are going to tackle a particularly difficult aspect of this challenge, which is living in a tiny home during the coronavirus pandemic. As you will soon learn, with proper preparation and the right mindset, living in a tiny home during the Coronavirus Pandemic can not only be manageable but also quite pleasurable.
How to make your home more pleasurable to live in
The first thing we are going to cover is how to set up your home for a prolonged stay. While there are many home improvement projects you can tackle during the coronavirus pandemic, we are mainly going to focus on those that will make your small home more pleasurable. If your lifestyle is more oriented toward spending time outdoors, you might feel a bit claustrophobic. But, there are a couple of tricks you can use to make your home seem more spacious.
Declutter
Before you make any major changes to your home, we would suggest that you declutter. More often than not, people live in cluttered homes without realizing it. The main reason for this is that they don’t have a clear-cut way of deciding what clutter is and isn’t.
So, what we advise you to do is to separate your household items into three groups – the things that you are sure you are going to use, those that you want to get rid of, and everything in between. Then proceed to sort through that third group as well.
If you live in a small home, you do not have the room for items that you haven’t used in the past six months. So, if you are not using something, get rid of it. If you don’t want to throw stuff away, there are different storage solutions that exist with this in mind. So, don’t shy away from storing your items.
Home arrangement
Once you declutter, you will need to arrange it so that living in it is pleasurable. Know that there are clever solutions that will help you maximize a tiny home. But, there are a couple of guidelines that you need to follow to implement them:
- Put away any item that you can – The more items you can store in your cupboards and closets, the more room you will have.
- Always look for storage space – If you end up filling up your home, know that there are some truly creative storage solutions that you can implement.
- Consider your daily life before arranging your furniture – If your furniture is in the way of your daily activities, your life will be stressful. Therefore, your goal should be to make your furniture suit your lifestyle, not the other way around.
Unfortunately, having a decent home atmosphere during the COVID-19 pandemic is not a one-and-done type of deal. To make living in a tiny home during these troubled times pleasurable, you need to make adjustments and continually adhere to them. Luckily, most of these adjustments are something that you should be doing anyway. Therefore, you can use the COVID-19 pandemic as motivation to gain some useful habits.
Healthy habits
Sleep, exercise, proper diet. These are the habits that all of us need, but few of us practice. So, to make use of this stressful period, try to discipline yourself enough to incorporate these practices. After a while, you will feel much better, and your daily life will be much more pleasurable.
Keep your home clean!
Keeping your home clean during the Coronavirus pandemic is a must. Not only should you do so due to health reasons, but it could also help you avoid stress. Know that clutter only brings trouble as every misplaced item in your home will add to your stress. So, the best thing to do is to keep your home as clean and tidy as possible. Our advice is to start your day by doing a bit of cleaning up to avoid major cleaning every week. A half an hour of daily cleaning will do you a world of good.
Fun things to do in a tiny home
One of the reasons why people often dread spending prolonged time in a small home is because they cannot think of anything to do. They are accustomed to an outdoor lifestyle, which makes living in a tiny home during the pandemic awful. Alternatively, they only have one indoor hobby, which quickly becomes boring.
So, to help you cope with these stressful days, here are some things you can do:
- Exercise – Regular exercise is not only a healthy habit, but it can also be a fun hobby. There are a ton of workout plans you can follow in a small home, especially if you can afford some exercise equipment.
- Cooking – If you are avoiding cooking because it looks difficult or complicated, don’t. Use this period to learn the basics of cooking. You might even start enjoying it, especially once you learn which tools to use and how to organize your pantry. There are a ton of online courses you can follow that will make you into a great chef in no time.
- Reading – While playing video games and watching Netflix is the predominant way people spend time at home, we would advise you to stray away from doing so. While there is nothing wrong with video games or TV shows, they can become a problem if you overdo it. So, try going back to reading books to help combat this. In the long run, they will do you much more good than video games or TV shows.
